Not knights with swords. Knights with pencils, questions and the courage to try. That is the idea the whole center on Pear Tree Lane is built on.
A castle is a place where you're safe enough to be brave
EduCastle was built around one observation that anyone who has spent a week with young children will recognise: they take the biggest leaps when they feel completely secure. A worried child isn't learning much, however good the activity is.
So the place looks like an adventure and runs like a routine. Same faces, same rhythm, same teachers who know every child's name, their favourite book, and whatever they happen to be worried about this week. Inside that, children try hard things. They mix colours that turn brown. They build towers that fall over. They ask an exhausting number of questions, and we answer them.
That is what "Creating Knights of Knowledge" means here. Not a costume. It is the habit of having a go at something difficult, and the growing suspicion that working it out yourself is one of the better feelings available to a person.
What we believe, in plain words
True learning begins with independence.
Before children can thrive academically, they first learn the essential skills of everyday life: feeding themselves with a spoon, drinking from a regular cup, turning the pages of a book, pulling their own pants up in preparation for potty training, cleaning up after themselves, putting shoes and jackets on and taking them off again. These little skills build confidence and responsibility, and they are the foundation everything else stands on.
So our promise to you is a simple one. Your child will spend the day somewhere safe, joyful and nurturing, guided by educators who let them explore, try, practice and grow at their own pace. And you will always know how the day went: what went well, what didn’t, and what we’re keeping an eye on, without having to ask twice.
From the parent handbook every family signs. We hold ourselves to it.
Six things we will not compromise on

Safety, always
Secure entry, strict sign-in and release procedures, background-checked staff, allergy protocols, and regular drills. Nothing else matters if this isn't right.

Curiosity over compliance
We would rather a child ask "why?" fifty times than sit silently. Questions are the raw material of every skill we teach.

Play is the work
Blocks are engineering. Dress-up is literacy. Sand and water are physics. We plan play with the same seriousness others plan worksheets.

Honest communication
Daily updates, real photos, and straight answers, including when something was hard. No surprises at pickup.

Every family belongs
Different homes, languages, and traditions make the classroom richer. Children learn respect by seeing it modeled every day.

Teachers who keep growing
Ongoing training, CPR and first-aid certification, and real planning time, because great early educators are made, then supported.
Hands-on first, always
Nobody learns why things float from a picture of a boat. They learn it at a water table, dropping in a rock and then a cork and arguing loudly about which one is going to sink.
Teachers plan around questions rather than worksheets. "Where does the rain go?" turns into a fortnight of measuring puddles, drawing pipes, building a drain out of guttering, and a lot of new vocabulary nobody had to be drilled on. Which is how science, reading, art and negotiation all end up in the same afternoon.

- Reflect: children revisit their own work and explain it out loud

The people your child will love
We would rather you meet our teachers in their classrooms than on a webpage. Every educator here is background-checked, certified in pediatric CPR and first aid, and trained each year in child development, allergies and emergency response, and the same faces stay with a room for the whole year, so the adult who knows exactly how your child likes to be put down for a nap in September is the same one there in June.
Come on a tour and you will meet the director at the door and the teachers mid-morning, doing the job rather than posing for it. That tells you more than any staff page could.

Secure building
Keypad or fob entry, cameras at entrances, and an authorized-pickup list we check every single time, no exceptions, even on a rushed Friday.
Trained staff
Pediatric CPR and first-aid certified, background-checked, and trained annually in child abuse prevention, allergies, and emergency response.
Clean & healthy
Daily sanitizing routines, clear illness policies, handwashing built into the schedule, and posted allergy plans in every classroom.
Licensed & inspected
Licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Early Childhood, and open to inspection.
Nutrition
Breakfast and two snacks daily, with fruit or vegetables and whole grains at least four times a week, and careful accommodation of allergies and dietary needs.
Daily connection
Photos, notes, and milestone updates so you can see the day you missed, plus conferences twice a year and an open door in between.
